Whether we break or turn soil we are engaged in the act of building new ground.

We move from a place of care and concern for this precious world that we don’t own but share.

We come from a place of love and hope and through the despair,

We sing to the newly born

to the just begun-

We sing to former old paths and patterns

to the old ones

We sing to the singers

We sing to the sun

Sing to the lost

to the undone

We sing to the roots

the clocks that don’t ticktock

the crops that never grew straight

the ones who left

who couldn’t wait

to those for whom there seems no place

new ground is where the future’s found

where ancient & fresh sound abound

and surrounds us as home

We, like seeds folded in safety

housed in a good place

are designed to grow

Life force surges upwards towards the light and we

like green things

pull up and out of shaky & solid ground

We make new ground for the old ground is falling away.

“The note of hope is the only note that can save us from falling to the bottom of the heap of  evolution, because largely, about all a human being is, is just a hoping machine.” Woody Guthrie

Heart led, joy filled, brilliance fuelled - that’s just the way Karla Mundy rolls. As a director, she lights our choir on fire. Kind to the core, passionate and animated, Karla brings out the best in this community of soulful singers. Our repertoire for New Ground was curated with Karla’s eye on the world. Karla collected pieces that reflect qualities required for building.

The theme of compassion for shared humanity is featured in songs such as Refugee, Mary Mary and One Million Voices. Fun and joy showcased by the songs Dance With A Stranger, Glory Hallelujah, Treme and So Danco Samba. You’ll find hope and perseverance in All Night, In Times Such As These, New Ground and Overcome.

Old systems are caving and in their wake we are called to do more than find common ground but in fact, create new ground. Music paves the way, gives voice to what we are all living with. In theses days of chaos, change is the way forward.
